On August 9, 1898, Rudolf Diesel was granted patent #608,845 for an “internal combustion engine” which was named after him “the Diesel engine”.
There was a patent dispute between Rudolf Diesel and Herbert Akroyd Stuart. But Rudolf’s engine was far more efficient than the one patented by Stuart.
